Outpost firewall has worked well for me for about a year now. There is a free version and a professional version. 
Allows you to set rules for both incoming and outgoing connections. You can find it at

I've never used it, but I think that XP's firewall only firewalls off
incoming connections, not outgoing ones.  I think that kerio is free for
home use and I've found it very easy to use.

trojan remover.
