IT may cost more but MXTreme units also function very well as SMTP
gateways and firewalls.
I have number of them installed and they are appliance platform with
EAL4 EAL5 certification.

I am looking for anyones experiences and recomendations using a POP/SMTP
proxy configuration for email and using it to filter/virus check
incoming and outgoing email.

Currently we are an MS shop and trying to address a couple of issues.
Firstly we have outsourced our email services through our Internet
provider however they block SMTP access if you do not connect through
the company Internet connection (ie remote dialups). Secondly we would
like to try and stop email viruses etc before reaching the workstation.
