I didn't think that my simple question would start a long discussion here. I'm overwhelmed with all the help you guys have given. Thanks a lot. -Robert- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jimi Thompson" <jimit () myrealbox com> To: "Robert Reidenbach" <pominciss () greendot com ph>; <security-basics () securityfocus com> Sent: Saturday, September 27, 2003 12:16 PM Subject: Re: protect MS Windows 95/98/Me
We have a computing lab that it basically open to the public (i.e. student population) and we use a product called "DeepFreeze". You can get it here - http://www.deepfreezeusa.com/ Basically, you end users can do anything they want to the machine including format the hard drive ....UNTIIL they reboot in which case it is all back like you wanted. That might be a bit more draconian than the solution you were looking for, but then again, it might not. Now that 98 is EOL'd, what they are going to do - run Windows Update???? I'm looking for a software that you can install on MS Windows 95/98/Me Machines that won't allow an ordinary user to install any programs or allow any virus to infect any files. Would anybody know what they call these programs and where to get them? Any kind of help will be appreciated. -Robert---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
