  You might get better response on one of the Checkpoint-specific
lists.  But I'd interpret the above to mean one of two things:

1. Your "cross" cable may not be correct/working.  Have you
tested it elsewhere?

2. The Ethernet port on the Checkpoint box may have failed.
That would explain all your other observations, too....
