Hi, Within the next couple of days Yahoo is releasing a major new version of their Instant Messaging program. It's a totally new version. So you might want to wait until that version is released in the next couple of days before you make any conclusions. MSN Messenger from security standpoint Principally speaking that would make sense. Speaking on track record, I think that there have been a lot more vulnerabilities for MSN Messenger than AIM or Yahoo. I would recommend using AIM, because you can also encrypt conversations over the wire (albeit weak encryption) for free if you go to www.aimencrypt.com. I think that companies also develop private instant messaging software for corporate networks -- like you can run your own messaging service that is closed within the workplace. -Eric -----Original Message----- From: Murad Talukdar [mailto:talukdar_m () subway com] Sent: Wednesday, April 21, 2004 10:44 PM To: rhardstone () eudoramail com; security-basics () securityfocus com Subject: Re: Comparison of Yahoo v. MSN Messenger from security standpoint I could be wrong but as Windows has Messenger services integrated within it then wouldn't that make it more damaging if used as a source of attack? Even disabling certain messenger services within windows has caused probs on Xp machines in our office as it's all so tied up with other services. Hello All, Can somebody out there in the community comment on preference of messenger
service i.e. yahoo v. msn?
What are the design differences between the two? Which one would be
relatively better from security perspective? As it well known that all messengers have certain vulnerabilities. However, I want to know which one would be have the lesser among the two.
Any comments would be appreciated. Many thanks, Bill Need a new email address that people can remember Check out the new EudoraMail at http://www.eudoramail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------
