My first thought is that it is simply "checking in" with the GoToMyPc
service to see if someone is trying to connect, but I haven't been able
to suss this out on their website to ascertain if this is truly the case
and not something to worry about. Is what I'm seeing simply the normal
behavior of the program/service?

I think you're probably right there.

me@computer ~ $ host 66.151.158.177
177.158.151.66.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer poll.gotomypc.com.

me@computer ~ $ host 216.115.217.254
254.217.115.216.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer 216-115-217-254.expertcity.com.

expertcity appears to be a parent/sibbling of GoToMyPc. (anyone else
know for sure? I'm not real familiar with either organization.)

What doesn't show in your log is how far apart these 'pings' are taking place?
