A SSL VPN device such as the F5 FirePass can provide end point scanning to ensure that the user has virus scan software installed, a current virus database and that a personal firewall is installed /enabled etc. We have implemented several for clients and the support issues are less than they were for previous remote access/VPN solutions. Used with other security measures like one time only password solutions (Vasco etc) and endpoint rules and group rules they are a great solution that enable you to taylor the access a user has to the network resources. You can reduce management by enabling the device to populate master and resource groups based on LDAP queries to a database like Active Directory or eDirectory. Chris.
