Plus, many organizations block access to free email sites from their offices for a variety of reason, security certainly being among them. What if you have a business email thread started using your free email account and you return to your office and find the free email site blocked. Now what, you gonna run home, jump on your home machine in order to forward the free email to your business email account? How long is that gonna take, how far away do you live, what deal might you lose while you're running back and forth??? Many solutions exist for the road warrior to have remote access to his/her office machine or business data. -----Original Message----- From: listbounce () securityfocus com [mailto:listbounce () securityfocus com] On Behalf Of Micheal Espinola Jr Sent: Monday, October 16, 2006 3:38 PM To: security-basics () securityfocus com Subject: Re: Using Web mail (hotmail, gmail, yahoo, etc) for Business mails The two reasons I see it as a bad ideas because are: 1.) you are more likely to be subject to DNSBL blocking (risk:loss of information), and 2.) it looks unprofessional (risk:corporate identity). Confidentiality is subjective to the policies of the provider and are not necessarily the same across them all. Most anything discussed here would be speculation in one form or another, except that by signing up fora free web mail provider you are very typically entering an agreement that can be modified by the provider at their discretion without your notification, acknowledgement or agreement. The potential information security risks run the full spectrum of possibilities under such circumstance. On 16 Oct 2006 06:00:16 -0000, sfmailsbm () gmail com <sfmailsbm () gmail com> wrote:
Dear List, It is a common practice among users to user their personal email accounts like hotmail, gmail, etc to send & receive business (and most
probably confidential) information This is particularly the case when users are out of office These webmails are not under the company's control, and hence there is
a risk of information loss. However upto now we have not heard of any such cases Wanted to get the opinion of the list on the security risks of the use
of Webmails for business mails Thanks & regards ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- This list is sponsored by: Norwich University EARN A MASTER OF SCIENCE IN INFORMATION ASSURANCE - ONLINE The NSA has
