If you have the money..... McAfee offers a really good product and it's good for newbies as it offers pretty good descriptions of the signatures to help you learn as you go. Cisco has some, but are little detail and a pain to set up the filters. A cheap device like Fortigate works well too. But the best of the best is tippingpoint with patch emulation. Awesome stuff. -----Original Message----- From: listbounce () securityfocus com [mailto:listbounce () securityfocus com] On Behalf Of rohnskii () gmail com Sent: Saturday, October 20, 2007 5:26 AM To: security-basics () securityfocus com Subject: Re: IDS-IPS Recommendation Thanks Dave et.al. Live and learn. I'll check out the manual, and keep it in mind. Following up my suggestion to monitor traffic, a link to this site: http://www.paessler.com/prtg showed up in my gmail today. Their tool makes nice graphs, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. There is a freeware version of it.
