Good morning, How about editing snort.conf to log to syslog? This should give you some flexibility in alerting. But does anyone else on the list has experience - tweaking smooth wall to generate emails based on attack types or fw - rules. - ------Original Message------ - From: Alex Howells - Sender: alex.howells () 0wn3d us - To: infolookup () gmail com - Cc: security-basics () securityfocus com - Sent: Jul 2, 2008 6:30 PM - Subject: Re: Smooth wall 3.0 Tweaks - - 2008/7/2 <infolookup () gmail com>: - > - > I am basically looking to see if this product is good or can I - deploy other free products and get more out of them. - > - - That largely depends on how much time you've got I'm afraid -- - everything which Smoothwall is doing can be implemented in different - ways, using free tools. Whether you want to spend 2 weeks tinkering - about and implementing your 'perfect' setup is probably a cost:benefit - decision you need to make ;) - - The most important question, in my opinion: does the product do what - you want, is it 99% there? - - As to whether the product is good - only you can answer that :) That's - like asking, "How long is a piece of string?" or "What is the best - editor?" -- it will always cause people of different opinions to spout - "It's complete bollocks" vs "It's the best thing ever" and none of - those people are you, so it's pretty irrelevent spouting! - - - Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry This electronic transmission is intended for the addressee (s) named above.
