Syslog events generated by a security device.

Hi

Is there any information provided by the device vendor/manufacturer (e.g.
Cisco IDS) on the unique syslog events generated by a security device. 

Also to my knowledge this can be done on a test lab environment by sending
traffic to the device using specialized tools and watch the syslog server,
any other suggestions?
