(Assuming x.509 PEM file contains -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- and -----END CERTIFICATE----- .) If you are working in windows, simply rename the file extension to .der. After that you can open it.If it is opening properly then the file seems to be structurally/syntactically valid.
