Just to throw in my 2 cents...I've always felt that having a daemon to
do utmp and pty management would be a real feature. This avoids the
perennial problem of xterms leaving bogus utmp entries around and also
gives a neat way of handing out ptys (something that's really ugly most
of the time). Plus, it can be used to make things a bit more secure...
