If you can invoke a sufficiently sophisticated postscript interpreter with an email message or a web graphic, you can embed code to do unintended things, since PostScript is a full language.
The new Java language in the Hot Java browser looks pretty full. The Sun folks have made a commendable effort at building security in from the start, but even if their code is bugfree, there is still always the possibility of a user resetting the restrictive security defaults to something more convenient and therefore more dangerous.
