 The information in the following Security Advisory should be acted upon
 as soon as possible.  Hewlett Packard will not be liable for any
 consequences to any customer resulting from customer's failure to fully
 implement instructions in this Security Advisory as soon as possible.

PROBLEM:  The mediainit(1) command contains a defect.

PLATFORM: HP 9000 Series 700/800s running HP-UX releases 9.X and 10.X

DAMAGE:   Users can perform unauthorized activities.

SOLUTION: Apply the following patches as needed:

        PHCO_12326 - for s700/800 HP-UX release 10.30, or
        PHCO_12332 - for s700/800 HP-UX release 10.20, or
        PHCO_12342 - for s700/800 HP-UX release 10.10, or
        PHCO_12344 - for s700/800 HP-UX release 10.01, or
        PHCO_12346 - for s800 HP-UX release 9.X, or
        PHCO_12347 - for s700 HP-UX release 9.X

I.
   A. Background
      Hewlett-Packard Co. has discovered a flaw in the HP-UX
      implementation of the mediainit(1) command, used to prepare storage
      media for use.

   B. Fixing the problem
      Apply the patch after retrieving it from the HP Electonic Support
      Center (see below).  Only this will completely resolve the defect.

   C. To subscribe to automatically receive future NEW HP Security
      Bulletins from the HP Electronic Support Center via electronic mail,
      do the following:

    security patch matrix. Updated daily, this matrix is categorized
    by platform/OS release, and by bulletin topic.


   D. To report new security vulnerabilities, send email to
