The information in the following Security Bulletin should be acted upon
as soon as possible.  Hewlett Packard will not be liable for any
consequences to any customer resulting from customer's failure to fully
implement instructions in this Security Bulletin as soon as possible.

PROBLEM:  Fixes a problem with the e-mail or modem traffic to and
          from on-site customer machines and Response Center Predictive
          machines.

PLATFORM: All HP3000 Series 900 systems running MPE/iX Release 5.0 and
          MPE/iX Release 5.5.

DAMAGE:   Data transfer may be compromised.

SOLUTION: Apply the appropriate patch noted below.

AVAILABILITY:  All patches are now available.

I.
   A. Background
      Many on-site customer machines are running Predictive.  This issue
      is relevant to those users who send Predictive messages and/or
      receive Predictive messages by modem or by e-mail.

   B. Recommended solution
      The system administrator needs to obtain and apply the patches
      mentioned below.

   C. Fixing the problem

   1. Obtain the patch
      Obtain the appropriate patch from the HP Electronic Support Center,
      URL:    http://us-support.external.hp.com
              (US,Canada, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America)
              http://europe-support.external.hp.com  (Europe)

      Follow the "Patch Database" hyperlink from the HP Electronic
      Support Center home page.

   2. Apply the patch
      MPE/iX patches are unpacked using the UNPACKP script.  UNPACKP
      runs the MOVER utility to unload the truck file for the patch.
      Hyperlinks for the UNPACKP script and the MPE Patch Installation
      Guide are located on the main page for MPE/iX patches on
      HP Electronic Support Center.

      You need MOVER version A.00.02, EOF (end-of-file) 635, to unload
      MPE/iX patches.  You can download this version of MOVER from
      the HP3000 Web Server at http://jazz.external.hp.com.  Follow
      the Shareware and Sources & Binaries hyperlinks.


   D. Solution impact
      All patches will require rebooting the system.

       OSPKXA8 (A)  for   MPE iX 5.5
       OSPKXC5 (A)  for   MPE iX 5.0

      The problem will be fixed in the MPEiX 6.0 general release.

      Patch Matrix.  Updated daily, this matrix is categorizes security
      patches by platform/OS release, and by bulletin topic.


   F. To report new security vulnerabilities, send email to

           security-alert () hp com

      Please encrypt any exploit information using the security-alert
      PGP key, available from your local key server, or by sending a
      message with a -subject- (not body) of 'get key' (no quotes) to
      security-alert () hp com.
