Title: Sec. Vulnerability in MPE/ix JAVA

----------------------------------------------------------------------
   HEWLETT-PACKARD COMPANY SECURITY BULLETIN: #010, 20 Feb. '01
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in the following Security Bulletin should be
acted upon as soon as possible. Hewlett-Packard Company will
not be liable for any consequences to any customer resulting
from customer's failure to fully implement instructions in
this Security Bulletin as soon as possible.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
ISSUE: Sun Microsystems discovered a potential security issue
in the Java Runtime Environment. The issue poses a
possible security risk by allowing an untrusted class
to call into a disallowed class under certain
        circumstances.

PLATFORM: HP e3000 running MPE/iX releases 6.0, 6.5, or 7.0.
This security bulletin applies only to Java on MPE/iX.
It does not cover software shipped on HP-UX, Linux,
           nor on Windows/NT.

POSSIBLE RESULT: Improper access rights may be granted in some cases.

SOLUTION: Install the latest Java releases as described below.
           JDK/JRE 1.2.2, MPE Version A.22.04 or higher
                for all MPE/iX Releases
                               - or -
           JDK/JRE 1.3 (when available) for MPE/iX 7.0

AVAILABILITY: The fixed releases are available immediately.
--------------------------------------------------------------
I.
  A. Background
Java 1.1 and 1.2 applications may permit unauthorized
     access in some cases.

  B. Fixing the problem
Obtain and install the latest releases of the Java products.
For JDK/JRE 1.2.2 based releases go to
        http://jazz.external.hp.com/src/java/jdks/JDK1.2.2.html.
Follow the process below to determine your installed Java
     version on MPE/iX.

  C. Recommended solution
JDK 1.2.2, MPE Version A.22.04 * or higher for all MPE/iX Releases
                               - or -
     JDK 1.3 (when available) for MPE/iX 7.0

     * NOTE: JDK/JRE MPE Version A.22.04 is the minimum to resolve the
issue addressed in this security bulletin. However, JDK
version A.22.05 or later is preferred since they incorporate
             product quality enhancements.

For JDK/JRE 1.1.x based releases, the recommended solution is
to update to a 1.2.2 based version of Java.
