Background ========== Portage is the default Gentoo package management system. Affected packages ================= ------------------------------------------------------------------- Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 sys-apps/portage < 2.1.3.11 >= 2.1.3.11 Description =========== Mike Frysinger reported that the "etc-update" utility uses temporary files with the standard umask, which results in the files being world-readable when merging configuration files in a default setup. Impact ====== A local attacker could access sensitive information when configuration files are being merged. Workaround ========== There is no known workaround at this time. Resolution ========== All Portage users should upgrade to the latest version: # emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=sys-apps/portage-2.1.3.11" References ========== [ 1 ] CVE-2007-6249 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-6249 Availability ============ This GLSA and any updates to it are available for viewing at the Gentoo Security Website: http://security.gentoo.org/glsa/glsa-200712-11.xml Concerns? ========= Security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux and ensuring the confidentiality and security of our users machines is of utmost importance to us.
