And just out of curiosity: Did you ever actually read Brave New World or
at least read a summary? Because, man, writing something like "Brave New
World-like monitoring tools"...

  Perhaps you misread his article, or misunderstood it.  He was _not_ in
favour of them.

  "Brave New World" seems to me to be a perfectly good analogy for the way
in which many modern governments and/or security services seem to imagine
(or at least, present their case for creating these monitoring systems as if
they seem to imagine) that we would all live in a happy peacful utopia, if
only we were all tagged, controlled, stamped, numbered and monitored in
everything we do and everywhere we go; Dave's point was that this outward
guise would be an illusion covering up what would in fact in reality be a
dystopian nightmare.

  Alright, maybe a George Orwell fan could insist that 1984 would be a
better comparison.  But I still think you missed his point.
