"Security Updates" are for security updates, not random software Microsoft would prefer that you ran. In the long run, this policy has a detrimental effect on security by making users not trust the auto-update feature to leave their system the way they last saw it.
And it's not entirely unlikely that Microsoft will be forced to offer the same distribution channel to its competitors.
