The source side needs to be a synchronized stream so that all the computers are yelling at the same time. Said stream needs to have the necessary commands in it to recruit others to the chorus, i.e., if you hear it, you are compelled to join in. The Pied Piper comes to the Internet... In that same theoretical world where you begin with "Assume a spherical cow of uniform density," you can say that a single machine yelling for others to join in will recruit any other within the range of its voice but as new recruits join in, the synchronized yelling gets louder. If the recruited machines are predictably spaced on a uniform grid, then the sound density will be calculable by the R-squared falloff of intensity from the effective center of the speakers. The folks who do active phased arrays would know how to do the math, but a time-delay beamformer could, in theory, direct the "beam" of sound wherever you like it.
