I'm not sure of the brand, but I seem to recall it was bright yellow and had a couple of directional antennas for triangulation. I also think it was WinCE based. It could track clients as well as APs. Google's not turning up much after a quick search. I'm sure someone on the list can provide a pointer. I want to be able to click "Find this AP" and then have SILICA say "stay still . . . . signal is 99. Now take 5 steps to the left.... signal is 91. Now take five steps forward....signal is 102" and then interpolate in "steps" the distance and direction of the access point. It'd make you look a little silly, but I think it'd be quite useful. It's weird the things you find that are useful. For example, it's nice to just know what OS every little tiny router is running. Sometimes a router will try to "be every IP address", which is very annoying. - -daveIt was/is a yellowjacket. I've done lots of location tests and have some new ideas on the topic. Ping me when you are in Vancouver about this and I'll explain my current thoughts on the subject of locating wifi. :-)
And I guess to be a little less oblique.... In theory that should work well Dave, If everybody lived in a faraday-cage, rf aneochoic chamber above a perfect ground plane it would be very cool... In a real world office environment with metal girder construction the multipath interference and reflections is... a bitch. I've been working on solutions for that in a number of applications. Maybe one of these days I can cut some time out to write a paper on this and the tests... :) But right now I'm swamped... so you have to find me in some bar at the conference if you want to get me to explain more :). cheers, --dr -- World Security Pros.
