New Utah school district apologizes for lost employee data

http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_12826223 Canyons School District officials are investigating the disappearance of a thumb drive that may have contained the personal information of more than 6,000 current and recent employees. The flash drive is believed to have contained employee addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth and Social Security numbers. A district-level worker was using it to transfer data for apparently "legitimate," job-related purposes, said district spokeswoman Jennifer Toomer-Cook. "At this point, we have no reason to believe the information was stolen or used to perpetuate fraud or identity theft."
