Beach schools report computer security breach

http://hamptonroads.com/2010/06/beach-schools-report-computer-security-breach?cid=ltst School officials announced today that because of an incorrect security setting, an Ocean Lakes High School student was able to access a temporary file on a server that contained the names, addresses and social security numbers of students at 22 schools. The breach was discovered when the student tried to print some of the information in the school library, officials said. The student has not been criminally charged in the May 6 incident. Police said there have been no charges because there is no evidence that the information was used by the student, though misdemeanor charges are still a possibility. School officials said they waited until the police investigation concluded to notify parents. In addition to names, addresses and social security numbers, the student files also contain parent names, phone numbers, class schedules, birth dates and student ID numbers. [..]
