Personal Employee Information Surfaced On The Internet

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Atlanta Fire Rescue employees got a letter Friday
alerting them that a security breach had occurred involving some of
their personal information.

Private and sensitive information including addresses, identification
numbers, and Social Security numbers were all leaked onto the
Internet.
Interim Fire Chief Joel Baker stated, "We take any breach of
confidential data extremely seriously."

Baker said someone used the sensitive data on a personal laptop and it
was accessed by another computer via the Internet.
The fire department recommended that employees register for credit
monitoring, which the city of Atlanta has arranged to provide for one
year at no charge.

The information has since been removed from the Internet.

A full investigation into how the breach happened is ongoing.
