Riga, Latvia (AHN) - Authorities have finally unmasked Latvia's online
"Robin Hood". The man who took part in the downloading of 7 million tax
records to highlight hypocrisy in high places has been identified as
Ilmars Poikans.

The arrest of the 31-year-old researcher at the University of Latvia.s
Institute of Mathematics and Computers has sparked a wave of protests.

Poikans, who went by the cybername "Neo," a reference to the main
character in the "Matrix" films, leaked personal financial details about
Latvia's top government officials and business leaders to local media
outlets. His actions revealed that despite cuts in government services
such as social security payments, pensions and healthcare as austerity
measures, board members of municipal companies reaped huge salaries and
bonuses as their workforce lost jobs and wages.

The data Polkans leaked proved to be highly embarrassing to those
seemingly guilty of impropriety but he gained a huge public following.
