Property Tax security breach was 'discovered quickly'

It comes after the company which operates the helpline for the Revenue
Commissioners discovered a worker had unnecessarily taken credit card
details from a small number of callers.

The employee has been suspended while investigations by the Gardaí and
Revenue continue.

Eleven members of the public were affected by the alleged fraud
attempt but no one has suffered any losses.

Data Protection Commissioner Billy Hawkes doesn't think people need to
worry about the incident.

He said: "Our understanding is that the incident is quite limited,
that it was discovered quite quickly and that action was taken
immediately, including notfification of the Gardaí."
