How about using posters? A picture of a broken laptop that just fell form the hands of a student and a message stating: When was the last time that you made a backup?... Accidents happen might draw their attention. We have had wonderful results starting with this kind of marketing approach for awareness programs (not security related actually; but Ive also seen this working on information security awareness programs in a few companies). After you catch peoples attention they will start to ask questions and read; that is my experience. Organizing some security events will help to get people involved (security day, once in a year for example). I hope this helps, Omar Herrera Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico City Campus Information Security Topics -----Mensaje original----- De: The EDUCAUSE Security Discussion Group Listserv [mailto:SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU] En nombre de Jacob Barros Enviado el: Viernes, 27 de Junio de 2003 09:05 AM Para: SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU Asunto: Re: [SECURITY] User Awareness Program We too have trouble getting people to read anything but we're still offering the opportunity to stay informed. Our department, with much hesitation has started a bi-weekly email newsletter that we send out to all faculty and staff. One of the articles included is a security 'soap box' where I get to preach about passwords on sticky notes or post articles about hackers and such. (The other articles are related to happenings within computer services which includes server administration, desktops, printers and laptops, our ERP system and telephony so ther's always something to say.) It's not much, but it's a step in the right direction with your only expense being the time to think through the policy involved. ********** Participation and subscription information for this EDUCAUSE Discussion Group discussion list can be found at http://www.educause.edu/memdir/cg/. ********** Participation and subscription information for this EDUCAUSE Discussion Group discussion list can be found at http://www.educause.edu/memdir/cg/.
