Interesting... it would seem that Hotmail & MSN soon plan on marking all email from domains without SPF / Sender ID records as SPAM. http://news.com.com/Microsoft+pushes+spam-filtering+technology/2100-7355_3-5 758365.html While it's clearly debatable whether or not to use SPF checks against your incoming email, it is probably at least worth creating the simple DNS record for your domain(s) just in case. Personally, I don't think they will be successful in demanding this requirement so quickly, if ever. --- Dave Koontz Mary Baldwin College Staunton, VA -----Original Message----- From: Graham Toal [mailto:gtoal () UTPA EDU] Sent: Friday, June 17, 2005 9:27 AM To: SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU Subject: Re: [SECURITY] Blacklists - URL and IP The problem that SPF solves is that it helps stop people spoofing your domain, as long as the recipient checks SPF. It doesn't stop spam because the spammers create valid SPF records for their own numerous domains, which they change regularly because they have some of the more dubious registrars in their pockets.
