Also, in terms of getting yourself more widely known among security folks, you might consider attending conferences and training sessions where others congregate. A good, relatively low-cost choice is Educause's Security Professionals Conference. Next year's event is in early May in Arlington, VA. Security-related SANS conferences and courses are also good places to meet and network with others. They're not nearly as low-priced as the SPC, but SANS-EDU events are heavily discounted and are being offered more and more. - ken
