Log retention survey for servers

Does your institution have a [formal or not] policy for server log
retention (web server logs, mail gateway/server logs, login accounting
records, database query logs, etc)? Are your retention periods based on
best practices, storage limitations, a mandate, or some other reason? 

I will compile the results and distribute back to the participants.
