Hello -

Thanks for this message! We've recently been discussing this very issue
- at one time this feature was considered a positive convenience for our
conference attendees but now perhaps it's no longer a positive. We will
be re-evaluating our conference web site applications in 2009, and this
feature is definitely in the hopper for discussion. Thanks again, and if
you or others wish to discuss further, please feel free to contact me
directly.

As this is now a matter of public discussion, I think 2009 is a mite too
late to begin the discussion :-(

I'm not sure if changing my profile settings to be open to logged-in
users only doesn't alter this particular "feature" or if my change in
privacy setting is merely taking a while to propagate in the system, but
I strongly request that at minimum we be given the choice whether to
permit others to register us for conferences or not as a control on this
leak of privileged information. The emergency contact information may
well contain sensitive information or unlisted phone numbers that we
might want protected.
