Ask them how inconvenienced they'll feel about having to call all their
contacts to tell them that their info has been compromised, that their
email has been read, and that email can quickly be sent in their names.
Not to mention that most of those devices are also likely configured with
automatic login to personal services such as Facebook.  Obviously a
passcode is not a foolproof obstacle, but it seems to me that a thief who
encounters a passcode-protected device will just move to completely wiping
the device for resale and harvest data from some other poor person's device
that doesn't have a passcode.
