iTunesU and network bandwidth

We (TRIUMF) have a big pipe to the research networks (Canarie/Janet/Internet2) and a small one to the commercial internet.
I was recently looking at "bandwidth hogs" on our commercial connection and found someone downloading physics lectures from Imperial College London. Work-related, sure, and Imperial College is on Janet as is their in-house media at stream.ic.ac.uk. But this lecture was on iTunes, pushed out to Akamai, and so on our bandwidth-capped and relatively expensive commercial connection.
I was curious if anyone else had this problem, seeing as Apple has (I believe) been pushing iTunesU for student lectures etc. I mean, does iTunes have any edge platforms on the research networks, and if so is there any way one can use them preferentially ?
