Dear Colleagues,
The Higher Education Information Security Council (HEISC) continues to focus on three priorities in 2015: Strengthening
Foundations, Continuing to Build the Security Profession, and Advancing Information Security Strategies in Higher
Education. To learn more about our vision and mission, please see our new HEISC charter<http://www.educause.edu/heisc>.
Since the beginning of the year, we have accomplished several important activities.

  1. Announcing registration and programs for the 13th annual Security Professionals
Conference<http://www.educause.edu/sec15> in Minneapolis and online.
  2. Publishing the “Top 3 Strategic Information Security
Issues<http://www.educause.edu/ero/article/top-3-strategic-information-security-issues>” in the January/February 2015
issue of EDUCAUSE Review.
  3. Coordinating 7 guest blogs and 1 webinar for Data Privacy
Month<applewebdata://BCD51177-AA7F-42CE-9940-D51DE518479C/www.educause.edu/dpm> in January and February.
  4. Submitting comments to NIST on behalf of the higher education community regarding Special Publication 800-171.
  5. Upgrading and migrating the Information Security Guide<http://www.educause.edu/security/guide> to a new (and more
secure) version of Confluence with the assistance of Internet2.
If there are specific resources you’d like us to address this year, please let us know. And stay tuned for our next
update in June!
Thank you,
Elias Eldayrie and Melissa Woo, HEISC Co-Chairs
