On Friday, February 1, major DNS (Domain Name System) software and public DNS providers will remove support for workarounds accommodating authoritative DNS servers that don’t follow published EDNS operational standards. Most EDU sites will not be affected; however, institutions using authoritative servers that don't meet standards may find their IT-based resources unreachable by large portions of the Internet. The attached REN-ISAC Alert provides reference to (+) tools that help you determine if you're affected, (+) considerations for fixing non-compliant servers, and (+) results of a quick evaluation of 53 higher-ed institutions in one state. Questions or comments can be referred to soc () ren-isac net. On behalf of the REN-ISAC Technical Advisory Group and staff, Doug Pearson Technical Director, REN-ISAC
