We had a very successful user survey, a change in leadership and a luau at our annual face to face meeting. I’ll write about all of that in a separate email. For now, I want to get back to regular business. Last month’s CCCG call was an open topic discussion. You can find links to the notes and meeting recording on the higher ed cloud wiki<https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/display/CA/Higher+Ed+Cloud+Community+Conversation+and+Additional+Resources>. This month the CCCG call swings back into the research space. That didn’t take long, did it? I confess we were thinking about cancelling the call because of the face-to-face meeting at EDUCAUSE but then I met the chair of the Research Computing CG and not long after I had this topic and presenters fall right into my lap on the conference expo floor. It was too good to pass up. While this is a research topic, it hits at the heart of a more common challenge, federating access to services or data we manage. Please share this meeting information with your Identity team as well as with your Research Tech colleagues. * Topic: Beyond InCommon and Identity Federation: ORCA and the NIST Cloud Federation Reference Architecture in a Nutshell * Description: NIST recognized the need for a more organized approach to federation many years ago. As a result, the NIST Cloud Federation Reference Architecture (CFRA) has been produced. The CFRA provides an organization of the entire federation design space. As a reference architecture, it is inherently conceptual, but we show how it can be used to support a range of concrete deployment and governance models that provide more flexible and complete federation management capabilities than current systems. The Open Research Cloud Alliance (ORCA) is working to facilitate the development and adoption of the CFRA concepts in the academic sector. * Presenters: * Craig A. Lee, Chair NIST Federated Cloud WG * Khalil Yazdi, Yazdi and Associates * Martial Michel, Data Machines Corporation Logistics: * What: Monthly CCCG Call * When: Wednesday, October 23, 9am PT/12pm ET * Where: https://internet2.zoom.us/j/408515294<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Finternet2.zoom.us%2Fj%2F408515294&data=02%7C01%7Cbxw468%40psu.edu%7C3df5abbae31c48ea1eea08d5fbda1ec8%7C7cf48d453ddb4389a9c1c115526eb52e%7C0%7C0%7C636691836611821970&sdata=wOLNBLoQR2vUtaF0PSBtMrsJWMafPP9%2Bb30W19H3tt4%3D&reserved=0> Regards, Bob Flynn, Jody Couch & Damian Doyle Co-chairs CCCG ============== Connection Details ================ Monthly call of Cloud Computing Community Group.
