Sharing to maximize reach – Brian =================== The CARE (Cybersecurity in Application, Research and Education) Lab<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsites.temple.edu%2Fcare&data=04%7C01%7C%7C4ca12f96074649c5edac08d8ecad90b9%7Cdd4b037fe626495db0170cc0f7dddb37%7C0%7C1%7C637519577503853457%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=DqdoCOrTUXhDxPH1ok9tnk9ukE0OME2qc2o1HKBdOrE%3D&reserved=0> at Temple University will have its FIRST Social Engineering (SE) Educator Workshop on Monday, June 7th. The 6-hour workshop will be held ONLINE in light of the Covid-19 pandemic! The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s 2019 Internet Crime Report noted that the total financial loss from the SE tactics of business email compromise, phishing scams, and confidence fraud/romance scams totaled more than $2.23 billion. SE is a technique used by cybercriminals to psychologically manipulate individuals into disclosing sensitive information (passwords) and provide unauthorized access (downloading and executing malware files). The human factor is often regarded as the weakest link in cyberattacks, making SE a major concern for cybersecurity. Despite the significant threat posed by SE attacks, SE is often downplayed in existing cybersecurity curricula. This workshop seeks to address this limitation and will arm educators with information on how to incorporate SE projects into their classrooms in a safe and ethical manner. The workshop will introduce attendees to the SE topic, tactics and persuasion techniques used, SE playbooks, and relevance to cyberattacks and cybersecurity. The workshop will share case studies on shoulder surfing, pretexting, and privacy. Attendees will also engage in a safe, ethical, and fun hands-on social engineering activity in groups and then share their experiences. The workshop will end with an interactive discussion on implementing SE training and education at their respective organizations, the role of ethics in training and education, and a Q&A session with workshop organizers. Full-time educators in high school and higher education institutions can apply. High school educators selected for the workshop will be compensated for their time. Applications are being accepted from NOW till April 23rd. We are inviting educators from ALL fields to participate as SE impacts everyone. Please note that this is NOT a technical workshop. Educators do NOT need to have skills or experience in coding, pen testing, digital forensics, etc. Feel free to email care () temple edu<mailto:care () temple edu> if you have any questions or concerns. This competition is part of the education and outreach efforts under the NSF SaTC EDU grant #2032292.<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nsf.gov%2Fawardsearch%2FshowAward%3FAWD_ID%3D2032292%26HistoricalAwards%3Dfalse&data=04%7C01%7C%7C4ca12f96074649c5edac08d8ecad90b9%7Cdd4b037fe626495db0170cc0f7dddb37%7C0%7C1%7C637519577503863451%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=gZkddvrKYc8fBBFN%2FM8kAEfEt1WlB9WT0coyzB5jSkc%3D&reserved=0> Please encourage educators to apply and help spread the word!
