Dear all,

Our summer Social Engineering Educator Workshop was a success! We had 22 attendees and an overall positive feedback.
Read more about it here:

In case you missed it, we are having our next 6-hour virtual workshop on Friday, September 17, 2021 (see below, and
also attached). We are accepting applications from educators at high schools, 2-year and 4-year institutions. We are
particularly interested in serving underrepresented communities as part of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
efforts. Please share and help spread the word!

Best regards,

Aunshul

SOCIAL ENGINEERING is when cybercriminals attempt to influence someone to take an action that’s likely not in their
best interests. If you want to teach your students cybersecurity skills for defending against the latest social
engineering techniques, you need a playbook. Temple University’s Cybersecurity in Application, Research and Education
(CARE)
Lab<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsites.temple.edu%2Fcare%2F&data=04%7C01%7C%7C1b6aea9f463443805e2108d947bba9ec%7Cdd4b037fe626495db0170cc0f7dddb37%7C0%7C0%7C637619693611490572%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=fTqRxXo%2BhhJ47WoBuWJ79PlW5tnb2jEClt8Hzim5rIc%3D&reserved=0>
wants to share that playbook with you.

SOCIAL ENGINEERING EDUCATORS WORKSHOP

On Friday, September 17, the CARE Lab will host high-school and collegiate educators for a six-hour workshop on social
engineering tactics and persuasion
techniques<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsites.temple.edu%2Fcare%2Feducator-workshop%2F&data=04%7C01%7C%7C1b6aea9f463443805e2108d947bba9ec%7Cdd4b037fe626495db0170cc0f7dddb37%7C0%7C0%7C637619693611500566%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=epNhhvkusQ9EDwwm%2Bp7czdIo2jkeCl4VN7LfrGgZkDE%3D&reserved=0>.

Following an introduction, you’ll be put into groups for social engineering case studies. You’ll practice live
exercises in shoulder surfing, pretexting, open-source intelligence (OSINT), phishing and vishing. Then, we’ll discuss
the ethics of educating on cybercrime, share some student perspectives and discuss potential follow-ups for you and
your peers.

ELIGIBILITY:

Full-time educators (high school and higher education institutions), age range 18-65.

All educators participating in the workshop will be required to complete a workshop evaluation survey.

High school educators will be compensated for their time at the rate of $25/hour.

Each participant must also complete an audio-visual release waiver. This allows organizers to use images, audio, text,
and video generated during the event for promotion and dissemination via conferences, publications, and podcasts.
