First scenario (preferred): what would be a free VPN solution using my
existing linux fw?

Use IPSec, which is now fairly easy to implement on Linux. You could also run
PPTP (used by Microsoft products) or P2TP. If the computer in your office (or
at your friends place or your laptop on the road) is running Linux, you could
also try GRE tunnels or SKIP.

third: what are the alternatives using NT as a FW?

You could then run the Remote Access Server service on NT and configure a PPTP
connection.

IPSec on Linux: www.freeswan.org
IPSec on Win32: www.nts.com www.timestep.com (i haven't tested these links)
SKIP for Linux: http://www.tik.ee.ethz.ch/~skip/
PPTP for W95/98: DUN version 1.3 and above supports it.

There are a multitude of security issues with PPTP (see www.l0pht.com) but is
probably the easiest to implement with the use of an NT box acting as your
firewall. IPSec is the _in_ thing these days, and will probably be very widely
used in the next few years.
