Hi,

In the face of seeming facecious(sp?) I would suggest Linux/*BSD using packet filters.  If you require additional 
security you could use proxies such as those freely avai;lable in the FWTK.  Caching is often useful using something 
such as Squid.

Other than that if you need an NT solution, which is easy but not secure, I'd suggest either Wingate (easy but has had 
problems in the past) or MS proxy (too complex and has had problems but seems to be quite standard among NT people).

For VPN you can use the dubious quality of PPTP though I have never looked for other alternatives on NT.  Personally I 
think a specialised product like TimeStep is better....just in the name of 'doing one thing well'.
