You might want to consider using Nukenabber as well - it gives you a lot of flexibility both in what is monitored and how you respond to it... - James D. Frankly, Chuck, some of us actually do go out and "smack someone
upside
the head". More importantly, the script kiddies that tend to repeat attempts are soon humbled into submission when their ISP cancels
their
service.
Apologies for contributing to a thread that's a bit "off topic" for this list but.... I'd like to second the sentiments above. We actually have a zero tolerance policy for abuse and regularly cancel accounts in the cases where we can positively identify an offender. Unfortunately we can't ( at the moment ) track spoofed types of attacks, but we're working on it. As to the lack of response or the generation of a "canned response" please understand, that there are literally hundreds of complaints a month that we deal with, and while each and every one is attended to by a dedicated "abuse guy", we cannot reply to each and every complaint ( otherwise we'd never get to the complaint :-) ) The proof as they say is in the pudding, ie: the spam or the abuse stops, and the user is banned from the service and ends up "attacking" from another ISP.
