The other alternative to filtering at the office end is to insist on a personal
firewall like ConSeal (http://www.signal9.com) or Sygate on the home machine.
These filter out connections to the home machine so they are less likely to be
hacked. As well, home machines used as VPN ends should be treated as internal
machines and subject to the same security constraints as office machines (Good
passwords, virus scans, up to date OS versions etc.)

When an employee uses a VPN client to connect (through Internet)
their home PC back to the office, the company run a risk that someone
on the Net may be able to hack the employee's PC and then gain access
to the company's internal network.

Do you think an Internet VPN connection should always go through some
kind of access control (eg. through a firewall) ??
However, there are certain protocols which cannot proxy through
firewall.
