My uneducated impression is that cable modems are much like an unswitched, unfiltered LAN, and therefore subject to the perils mentioned in that article.
As has been mentioned before on this list, DSL is often bridged and thus subject to the same security risks as cable modems. When I got DSL it even specifically stated on the info I receiced that the traffic was bridged. There's no substitute for a few precautionary measures whatever your means of connecting. Sean
