For Linux el-cheapo "firewalling", has anybody yet mentioned
antiquated-but-somewhat-usable

NB: www.fwtk.org has mirrors all over.

For real firewalling, you would need proxies like unto venerable FWTK
or recent announcement T.REX.

Red Hat Linux will come with its own copy of the DHCP server.  For the
latest, and on-line documentation, cf.
