Will data security technology benefit from Homeland Security?

Hi All, Maybe of topic for this list but here goes... I can't help think that the problem that the gov't has with intelligence is basically similar to those faced when trying to relate the numerous amounts of data accumulated on larger networks. I am not sure of any ongoing research but I would guess that some of the more advanced technology like neural nets as well as basic modeling could offer great promise not only in point devices like IDS's but also in backend correlation devices. I am not sure why all the current tech hasn't moved in a more advanced direction, maybe some has, some has and failed, some other factors limit the use of advanced logic in these programs. Just curious on whether the security product out there today will ever leverage the technology as it exists and as it will be developed by the Office of Homeland Security or other.
