1) 1.1 RC2 is the current release .. 1.1 RC3 will be released on 
www.engagesecurity.com  soon
What's new, for example:
- HTML reports can be generated using SQL backend. Packet data is 
decoded, etc. . This even works using AlertMail
- Full Snort 2.0 support (including all options that are available AND 
new rule keywords)
- Online update: included HTTP client and *full* Oinkmaster Win32 
support AND configuration
- Syslog plugin Snort 1.9 and 2.0 configuration support
- AlertMail is a thread

2) RC2 does, but don't use "-a" option and don't use syslog command-line 
option
