O'Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that CHRISTOPHER PORTER, age 30, of Wyncote, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today by Senior United States District Judge Alfred V. Covello in Hartford on his conviction for unlawfully accessing a commercial computer. Judge Covello ordered PORTER to serve one year of probation and to pay a fine in the amount of $1500 and restitution of $13,443 to the victims of his illegal conduct. PORTER pleaded guilty to the offense on December 8, 2005. According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, between December 2003 and March 2004, PORTER, President of Knowledge Key Associates (doing business as "The Training Camp"), of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, unlawfully accessed a commercial website in order to obtain business leads that belonged to a competitor, the now-defunct Advantage Technical Training ("ATT") of Avon, Connecticut. The Training Camp and ATT were both in the business of providing computer training. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David A. Ring. The Connecticut Computer Crimes Task Force includes agents from the FBI, the United States Postal Service, the Connecticut State Police, Connecticut Chief State's Attorney's Office, Defense Criminal Investigation Service, Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation Division, United States Secret Service, and detectives from the Glastonbury, Bridgeport and Milford Police Departments. The Connecticut Computer Crimes Task Force was formed in February 2003 to investigate crimes occurring over the internet. These crimes include computer intrusion, internet fraud, copyright violations, internet threats and harassment and on-line crimes against children. The Task Force also provides computer forensic review services for participating agencies. The Task Force is housed in the main FBI office in New Haven, Connecticut.
