Good Day, DNK> Here's the catch: If you don't cross the 9Mbps threshold, then you DNK> can happily live at 7-8Mbps indefinitely. Interesting - I got one of the very early "high speed" adsl connection at home and have been, for years, limited at roughly what the modem line analyzer was assessing as maximum performance (in other words, there was no cap I could see) and I was getting sustained 700-750 kilobytes per seconds downloads. Recently, I've frequently noticed a "capped" behaviour, at around 350 kilobytes per seconds sustained downloads. Until now I thought the introduction of high definition adsl TV in my neighbour's homes was to blame for that drop in performance but it occurs to me that I recently revamped my home network from a 10Mpbs backbone to a 100Mbps one. Hmmmmmm... BTW, I never liked those all-in-one appliances and found the approach of dedicated adsl modem/dedicated switch/dedicared wireless base to perform better than integrated devices, the only downside being the number of power cords and adapters...
From a network administration point of view, I also find it much
easier to have a mini corporate structure at home. My son is 5 years old now, but the day where I'll need firewalled subnets inside my home is near ;-) -- Best regards, Pierre mailto:pierre () datarescue com _______________________________________________ Fun and Misc security discussion for OT posts. https://linuxbox.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/funsec Note: funsec is a public and open mailing list.
