That's a public policy issue when you discuss public schools, along with
parents choice.

On their networks, they can do whatever they want as long as they are not
regulated otherwise.

I am against it, but hey.. I wouldn't want people to tell me how to use my
network or what to let those using my network do.

When government/public sector/work-place issues get involved, it's
naturally more complicated than that...

How is Websense by itself censorship? Is disallowing annonymizers
censorship? Technically yes. Practically it's security.

LMAO!!!

Public schools, and therefore their networks, are owned and ran by the
state (the People). If they did NOT block porn sites they would most
likely get sued by the parents of any kids who happened upon them.
Further, because those networks contain personal data they are
required by law to at least appear to be secure (no doubt why Google
is getting a bunch of crap from some ignorant public skool urchin who
F'ed up).

Finally, it has been fought all the way to the Supreme Court on more
than one occasion and decided that a child's "rights" are much more
limited at school because their behaviour (or what they say or what
clothes they wear) can be disruptive, interfering with the other kids'
right to an education. Naturally I'm completely against public
education but that's another discussion.
